“There's so much that younger people need to be aware of and there's so much that older people need to be reminded of. 'Cause we have not overcome.”
Teaching Civil Rights takes listeners into the homes, schools, streets and courtrooms of Atlanta, Georgia; Little Rock, Arkansas; Jackson, Mississippi; Montgomery, Alabama and Columbia, South Carolina.
It reveals how back room negotiations, federal intervention, violent resistance, litigation and mass movement came together to form one of the most profound social phenomena of this century.
“Will the Circle Be Unbroken?” aired on over 250 radio stations nationwide in 1997 and 1998. The series is being rebroadcast in 2001 on WABE in Atlanta and WCAI/WNAN in Massachusetts. Click here for details.
List of National Organizations
The following is only a representative list of the hundreds of organizations engaged in civil rights works in the United States. It is based on a list printed in the Newsroom Guide to Civil Rights published by the Communications Consortium Media Center. Terminology and ethnic designations (such as Hispanic and Latino, Native American and American Indian, African American and black) are based on preferences of the individual organization. Organizations listed below are primarily national organizations, but many of them have local or regional chapters or offices.
